Since 1971, Rejoice Radio has broadcast Christian music and programs to encourage listeners and witness in the community. Read below for the story of how God has blessed our growing listener-supported radio ministry.
In the early 1970’s, God placed a desire on the heart of Dr. Arlin Horton to start a Christian radio station for listeners along the upper Gulf Coast. On June 21, 1971, WPCS began operation. And in December 1996, WPCS expanded its outreach by broadcasting the Rejoice Broadcast Network on its first satellator station in Eugene, Oregon.
Now, through the financial support of its listeners, Rejoice Radio is broadcast on almost 40 stations and the Internet, reaching listeners across America and around the world. Rejoice Radio continues the vision of broadcasting Christian music and programming to encourage believers and provide a gospel witness in the community. As we look forward to what the Lord will continue to do through this listener-supported Christian radio ministry, we can only say, “To God be the glory, great things He hath done.”
On June 21, WPCS signed on the air as an educational, noncommercial, nonprofit, Christian radio ministry for the northwest Florida area. From its frequency 89.3 FM, WPCS broadcast Christian programming 17 hours a day.
WPCS began broadcasting 24 hours a day.
WPCS moved to a new tower, and the frequency changed to 89.5 FM.
WPCS moved to its current location in the Visual and Performing Arts building of Pensacola Christian College.
In December, the Rejoice Broadcast Network began with its first station in Eugene, Oregon.
RBN became available on the internet, extending its ministry to listeners around the globe.
On April 23, the full-power station KPCS 89.7 FM began broadcasting in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area.
Rejoice Radio became available on mobile devices.
On February 10, the full-power station KRRB 88.1 FM began broadcasting in the Boise, Idaho area.
On January 29, 2020, Rejoice Radio introduced two new online stations, Timeless Praise and Still Waters.
In August, Rejoice Radio was blessed to introduce a new online station for down-home gospel music, Old Country Church; in November, another station was launched, Seasons, featuring festive music that changes with each new season.
“I am home most of the day and living with chronic pain. The music you play is such an amazing help to me day and night! Thank you for playing the old gospel favorites. I also enjoy the 'Old Country Church'”
